ANTIQUE – A total of 1,422 subscriber identity modules (SIMs) were registered during the first facilitated registration in Antique, held at the Liberman Sports Complex, Pandan, on Feb. 10.
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) Region 6 coordinated with the local government unit and Public Telecommunication Entities (PTEs).
Of the 1,422 SIMs, 1,010 were Smart subscribers and 412 were Globe subscribers.
A total of 141 senior citizens were assisted.
Yesterday, NTC-6 was at the Municipal Civic Center in San Remigio, Antique.
On Feb. 14, a facilitated sign-up at Alimodian Public Market in Iloilo successfully registered 793 SIMs.
Prior, NTC-6 held facilitated registrations in Carles and Lemery in Iloilo and Madalag in Aklan.
This activity is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 11934, or the SIM card registration law; it provides for a 180-day registration period for SIM cards, which began on Dec. 27, 2022.
According to NTC-6 legal officer Atty. Deo Virgil Tan, the registration is only until April 26, 2023. The registration may be extended for a period not exceeding 120 days, depending on the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
All unregistered SIMs will automatically be deactivated.
“Deactivated SIM may only be reactivated after registration; provided, however, that reactivation shall be made not later than five days after such automatic deactivation,” read Section 5 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A. 11934.
The next facilitated SIM registration activity will be conducted in the following locations:
* Feb. 16 – Valderrama Cultural and Tourism Center in Valderrama, Antique
* Feb. 17 – Barbaza Public Plaza in Barbaza, Antique.
To register, subscribers are only required to bring their SIM card, mobile phone (does not need to be a smartphone), and any valid government-issued Identification (ID) cards or other similar forms of documents with a photo that will verify the identity of the end-user./PN
