ILOILO City – The weeklong water interruption in this southern city and several neighboring towns due to plant maintenance activity ends today.
Flo Water Resources Inc., one of the bulk water suppliers of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), said their product water could already be supplied to MPIW consumers by 6 p.m. or earlier today, assuming that nothing goes wrong.
Supply interruption started on March 31 from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. With the weeklong shutdown of Flo Water’s plant, there was a decrease in the supply of 20,000 cubic meters of water per day.
The preventive maintenance activity was also part of the summer action plans of MPIW and Flo Water.
Operations manager Joseph Dalmacio said the entire human and material resources of Flo Water are committed to the restoration of the supply of water to MPIW the shortest possible time.
As of 10 a.m. yesterday, Dalmacio noted clearance was already given to their contractor to finish all their remaining contracted works expectedly by 6 p.m. yesterday or earlier.
He added that instruction was already given to the production personnel of the water treatment plant to start extracting water from the river and feed it to the treatment facility.
“However, considering that the anthracite is new, it is expected that more time (more than the usual) is needed to make our product water safe for human consumption (several times of backwash are needed in order to properly clean the newly loaded pebbles, silica sand and most especially the anthracite),” read part of Dalmacio’s communication to MPIW chief operating officer Robert Cabiles.
