ILOILO – The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) advised Ilonggos to observe a safe, peaceful and healthy Holy Week.
Rodney Labis, chief of the IPHO-Health Service Delivery Division, yesterday issued reminders and safety tips.
Ilonggos are encouraged to avoid long exposure to direct sunlight or heat and to use self-protection such as hats and umbrellas, wear light-colored and comfortable clothing, and use sunscreen, he said.
Labis also reminded people to stay properly hydrated at all times and make it a habit to carry drinking water when participating in outdoor activities.
“Siguruhon nga nakainom sang maintenance nga bulong kag likawan ang madugay nga exposure sa init,” added Labis.
The IPHO personnel also suggested consulting a doctor before fasting.
Devotees who want to undergo physical penance are reminded to make sure the scar is seen by healthcare providers to avoid bacterial and tetanus infections.
For families and friends who plan to go to beaches or swimming pools, the following should be observed:
* keep an eye on the children at all times
* swim in the shallow part of the water
* avoid swimming if inebriated
* avoid dangerous water activities such as diving and pranking others, and
* be aware of the presence of a lifeguard or trained personnel in the swimming area
The IPHO also recommends to local government units to deploy responders to crowded tourist destinations.
“Kabay pa mangin hilway, malinong and healthy ang aton Semana Santa,” said Labis.
In Iloilo province, among the destinations and activities popular with tourists and pilgrims are: Bucari in Leon; Agony Hill in Alimodian; Garin Farm Pilgrimage Resort in San Joaquin; white beaches in Concepcion and Carles; and “Ang Pagtaltal” in Barotac Viejo./PN
