ILOILO – About 21,000 day-old chicks turned into ashes in a fire that broke out at a poultry farm in Barangay Igang, Pototan.
Senior Fire Officer Ricky P. Piolo said the fire started around 8:40 p.m. on Friday, April 14.
The chicks were delivered at the farm at around 5 p.m. that day.
The 2,500-square-meter farm was owned by Alfredo Panaguiton and his son, Mark.
“Nagtawag sila sa opisina 8:51 sang gab-i informing nga may sunog. Ang ginhalinan sini nga gin-focusan gid namon [investigate] was electrical in nature since according sa caretaker, iya nakita nga sa ibabaw sang kisame sa south portion sang building ini naghalin,” said Piolo.
He added: “Ang ibabaw sini light materials, ang idalum nga half sini semento. Kawayan ini sa babaw niya kag sa dalum semento nga gina butangan sang labhang.”
Among the four poultry houses at the farm, only one was totally gutted.
“Gapasalamat kita nga wala na naglapta pa,” said the fire officer.
Mayor Rafael Enrique Lazaro commended the firefighters for their quick response.
“Isa gid to ka masubo nga gab-i. Mayo man kay madasig ang pagresponde sang mga fire trucks, kag nakabulig man ang mga fire trucks sang iban nga banwa like New Lucena, Mina, Barotac Nuevo, kag ang private tanker,” said Lazaro.
No one was hurt in the fire.
Arson investigators are still determining the total cost of damage./PN
