ANTIQUE – Delegates of Antique are ready for the Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association (WVRAA) Meet 2023 in Makato, Aklan, beginning today, April 26, to April 30.
The provincial government allotted P15 million for its 516 athletes and officials. This is the largest budget ever allocated for WVRAA in Antique’s history.
The fund is intended for the delegation’s needs, such as transportation, vitamins, medical insurance, parade and playing uniforms, meals and snacks, among others.
Evelyn Remo, chief of the School Governance and Operations Division of the Department of Education-Schools Division of Antique, said the P15 million is from the Special Education Fund of the province.
The Aklan National High School for Arts and Trade will serve as the billeting school for the Antique delegation.
A “zero parent policy” will be adopted. Parents or guardians of athletes are not encouraged to stay at the billeting school since there are official chaperones tasked to look after them.
“Parents will have to execute a waiver if they will be taking out their children to stay outside of the billeting school, for they will no longer be under DepEd management,” Remo said.
Coaches, on the other hand, are advised to check on the nutrition and health of their athletes so they are in the top physical condition and ready to compete.
Remo hoped that Antique, which ranked fifth in the last regional sports meet held in Capiz in 2019, could level up its performance.
More than 2,000 medals are at stake in this year’s WVRAA Meet, which will include 24 sports events for secondary and 15 sports events for elementary. (With a report from the Philippine News Agency)/PN
