ILOILO City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 released over P6.3 million in assistance to families affected by flooding due to heavy rains brought by a low-pressure area and an inter-tropical convergence zone last week.
Of the P6,308,052.66 in aid, P5,009,322.16 were distributed in the form of 6,656 food packs; P1,183,025.5 worth of 790 hygiene kits; P83,662 worth of 59 sleeping kits; and financial assistance worth P32,043, data from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region 6 as of May 4 showed.
Here is the breakdown of the assistance per affected province:
Capiz – P1,585,524.30
* Cuartero – 1,630 family food packs worth P1,450,868.30 and 13 hygiene kits worth P19,467.50
* Dao – 196 family food packs worth P103,096
* Tapaz – six family food packs worth P31,560
Iloilo – P4,722,528.36
* Lambunao – 157 family food packs worth P137,871.12; 59 hygiene kits worth P88,352.50; 59 sleeping kits worth P83,662; and financial assistance worth P32,043
* Passi City – 2,987 family food packs worth P2,623,063.92 and 503 hygiene kits worth P753,242.5
* Pototan – 777 family food packs worth P682,330.32 and 215 hygiene kits worth P321,963
OCD-6 data further showed that 10,580 families or 44,052 individuals were affected by floods as of 10 p.m. on May 4.
Of these, 2,896 families or 11,022 individuals were served inside 86 evacuation centers (ECs), and 2,181 families or 8,592 individuals were served outside ECs.
Here is the breakdown of 10,580 flood-hit families:
* Capiz – 3,950 families or 18,599 individuals from 144 barangays (2,896 families or 11,022 individuals were inside the 86 ECs and 2,181 families or 8,592 individuals were outside ECs)
* Iloilo – 6,616 families or 25,401 individuals from 100 barangays (2,765 families or 2,765 individuals were inside the 62 ECs and 1,929 families or 7,644 individuals were outside ECs)
* Negros Occidental – 14 families or 52 individuals from one barangay (four families or 28 individuals were inside EC)
The OCD-6 also recorded six totally damaged houses, all from Iloilo.
PSWDO-Iloilo ready to augment affected LGUs
Ann Rapunzel “Rara” Ganzon, Development Management Officer 2 and spokesperson of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO)-Iloilo, said that as of Friday morning, May 5, no request for relief was sent to her office from local government units (LGUs) affected by flooding.
Ganzon noted that LGUs directly sought assistance from DSWD-6.
“Ang aton in-charge [personnel] nagalibot sa 3rd District to personally check ang status sang aton pumoluyo kon bala may ara pa gid man nagakinahanglan sang augmentation or need nga mag-stay sa ECs,” said Ganzon.
The PSWDO has family food packs on standby ready to be distributed to those in need, she added./PN
