ILOILO – In Calinog town’s Barangay Cahigon yesterday morning, tension between two families turned physical and violent when both camps sought to assist a voter at the polling precinct.
In the Caras camp, Jinky Caras Lumogdang ran for barangay captain while incumbent barangay kagawad Reynaldo Catolin sought re-election.
Geronimo Gonzales from the Caras camp and Ariel Catolin, poll watcher for his brother Reynaldo, figured in a fistfight. Gonzales allegedly took over a voter being aided by Catolin.
To avoid further trouble, the Caras family decided to leave the scene.
However, they were ambushed.
Eduardo Leysa was shot in the foot.
The suspect was Reynaldo’s other brother, Larry Catolin.
Law enforcement authorities recovered a 12-gauge shotgun while Larry remained at large as of this writing./PN
