ILOILO City – A dead newborn baby was found in a dumpsite in Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao district on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 9.
According to Rosalie, a garbage segregator, she noticed something unusual with a plastic bag and opened it. She found a dead baby girl still with its umbilical cord.
Rosalie described the baby as “beautiful and fair-skinned.”
The newborn was subsequently taken to a church, where she was blessed then buried.
Police Captain Val Cambel, chief of the Mandurriao police, expressed dismay over the incident.
As of this writing, authorities have no lead on who dumped the baby.
Whether the baby was intentionally left to die at the dumpsite or had died and was left there was uncertain, Cambel added.
“This serves as a lesson for young people to be responsible for their actions to prevent unintended pregnancies when they are not yet ready to assume parental roles,” Cambel said./PN
