CAPIZ – The Department of Education (DepEd) in Capiz province acknowledges the need to adjust the academic calendar for the school year 2024-2025.

Glenda Botin, spokesperson for DepEd-Capiz, stated in an interview that student examinations and school activities will be adjusted to align with the revised academic calendar.

In DepEd Order No. 3, Series of 2024, the gradual transition will commence with the opening of classes on July 29, 2024, and will conclude on May 16, 2025. This moves the school year to close on May 31, 2024, instead of ending on June 14.

Previously, there were calls to revert to the old academic calendar due to the extreme heat in April and May, which affected students’ concentration and learning.

Hernani Escullar, Jr., spokesperson of DpEd Region 6, emphasized the commitment to ensure that schools continue to meet learning competencies and areas despite these adjustments.

Technical assistance will be provided as needed by the division offices in Western Visayas, Escullar assured./PN
