MANILA – Newly-appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Rommel Francisco Marbil does not see a need to declare an all-out war against illegal drugs in the entire country.
According to Marbin, he wants the police force to possibly have a 100 percent drug-less community without the “war on drugs,” which was implemented during the time of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
“Wala po kaming giyera kontra droga dito e. It’s more of talaga kung paano natin ibaba ‘yung crimes natin based doon sa mga parameters ng PNP,” Marbil said in a press conference.
He added: “I don’t want to say na may drug war. It connotes parang giyera na naman kami. Ito lang talaga ‘yung requirement. Ito dapat yung ma-solve mo. We go for 100% drug-less community.”
Marbil, the country’s 30th PNP chief, said that under his leadership, police officers will no longer be racing with each other to have the highest number of arrested illegal drug trade suspects.
“Ano ang pinakamaraming drugs sa bawat region, so ito ‘yung expectations. Kung mas maraming drugs sa’yo, then we expect from you na ganito karami ang huhulihin mo. Hindi na kagaya ng paramihan ng huli,” Marbil said.
“During my speech, (I said that) I need accountability and transparency on the part of policemen. ‘Yun na po yung speech ko, accountability and transparency sa bawat police operation po namin,” he added.
The PNP last week said it has ordered the investigation on a number of Davao City policemen accused of killing suspected drug dealers in Davao City after Mayor Sebastian Duterte ordered an “all-out war on drugs” in the city.
“Lahat kami all-out sa drugs, ‘yun ang trabaho namin pero there’s no need for us to declare a war on drugs. Kahit sinong Chief PNP, gusto naming 100 percent drug-free ang communities,” Marbil said./PN
