ILOILO City – Approximately P1 million worth of shabu was seized from four suspects during a drug operation in Sitio Ubos, Barangay Igcocolo, Guimbal, Iloilo, on Saturday.
The following were detained at the Guimbal police station: “Kirk”, 34, from Barangay Igcocolo, Guimbal; his uncle “George”, 54, from Barangay Pescadores, Guimbal; “Ryan”, 29, from Barangay Sta. Rosa-Laguna, Guimbal; and “Third”, 22, from Barangay Bagumbayan, Guimbal.
They were apprehended at 5:30 p.m. through a buy-bust operation by undercover police officers posing as buyers who purchased P20,000 worth of shabu.
A total of 150 grams of shabu were recovered.
According to Police Captain Beverly Cataluña, Guimbal police chief, “Kirk” and “George” were already on their target list and had been under surveillance for months before their arrest by personnel from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
“Based on our information, ‘George’ was the one who procured the drugs for ‘Kirk’. We believe they had just received the drugs we recovered,” Cataluña told Panay News.
She added that Kirk and his group were known suppliers in Guimbal and neighboring towns.
“We have already caught other members of their group, prompting them to recruit new ones. When we intercepted the drug delivery, we immediately found them with drug paraphernalia,” Cataluña added.
The suspects face a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Brigadier General Jack Wanky, regional police director, hailed the achievement of the operational units. He urged cops across Western Visayas to continue the campaign against the spread of illegal drugs.
“Let us be more committed and dedicated to achieving a drug-free Western Visayas. Together, in unity, we will bring an end to these drug peddlers,” said Wanky./PN
