ILOILO – The provincial government is leading a week-long celebration to mark its 123rd foundation anniversary, dubbed “Semana sang Iloilo” from today, April 8, to April 14.
The Iloilo civil government was established on April 11, 1901.
The festivities, themed “Embracing MoRPogRes: Charting Iloilo’s Path to Global Competence and Resilience at 123,” are scheduled to kick off with a fun walk at 6:30 a.m. today starting from Sunburst Park and culminating at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol grounds.
An opening program is slated to follow featuring, among others, a turnover ceremony of LED lights to provincial and district hospitals, and a cheer dance competition.
A thanksgiving mass is planned for 9:30 a.m. in the capitol lobby, followed by ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the MoRPogRes Bazaar and Agri Byahe at the capitol grounds, and the inauguration of an Art Exhibit at Casa Real lobby and patio at 11 a.m.
The afternoon agenda includes the Mutya Sang Barangay Kapitolyo at 1:30 p.m. at the capitol lobby, dinner per office at 6 p.m., and Employees Night at 7 p.m., adjacent to the Western Visayas Regional Museum.
Additionally, the Semana Sang Iloilo Snack Fair and Exhibit will be available from April 9 to 11, and a virtual Fur-Ever Friends Photo Contest is set from April 8 to 12.
On the third day, a groundbreaking ceremony for a rooftop solar PV System at district hospitals funded by I-PORE is scheduled at the Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Dumangas, Iloilo, along with a Writers’ Forum and the 2024 Provincial PESO Congress.
Activities on April 11 include an advocacy and bloodletting activity, free coffee at the library, an open house at Casa Real lobby and patio, and Pasidungog 2024.
There will also be sports fest among provincial government employees from April 9 to 12 at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
April 12 will feature a caravan for firearm license processing, traditional games, and the MoRrogRes Gardens awarding ceremony.
A Municipal Festival Costume Contest and the “Paambit: A History and Heritage Talk” are also part of the festivities.
The MoRrogRes Bazaar, Agri Byahe, Technical Assistance Sessions on Business Development and Enhancement, and the Fur-Ever Friends Photo Contest will run from April 8 to 12, offering a full slate of activities for residents and visitors alike to enjoy./PN
