ANTIQUE – A total of P1.7 million in cash assistance was released to the beneficiaries of the Ayuda Para sa Kapos Ang Kita Program (AKAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 in this province.
Each of the 2,394 “near poor families” from 16 municipalities received P3,000 on Saturday, May 18, at the municipal covered gym of Patnongon town.
The beneficiaries were from Barbaza, Belison, Bugasong, Culasi, Hamtic, Laua-an, Libertad, Pandan, Patnongon, San Jose, San Remigio, Sebaste, Sibalom, Tibiao, Tobias Fornier, and Valderrama.
DSWD-6 personnel led by Policy and Plans Division chief Luna Moscoso, who also serves as the Antique team leader, together with SWAD team leader Darlene Abagat and Sustainable Livelihood Program’s Noli Valenzuela, facilitated the distribution of cash assistance.
Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, alongside President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr., launched AKAP on Saturday.
A total of P26.7 billion has been earmarked for AKAP’s implementation in the country this 2024.
AKAP is targeted to help beneficiaries who are in the low income category such as those whose income do not exceed the statutory minimum wage.
The program is the national government’s response to help the “near poor” families affected by inflation, which is the increase in the prices of goods and services.
It aims to protect the purchasing power of the Filipino families, specifically targeting beneficiaries whose income do not exceed the statutory minimum wage and are severely affected by the rising inflation and actually need the assistance.
Households receiving regular assistance under 4Ps and Social Pension are not qualified for the program./PN
