AKLAN – A driver and his colorum van were apprehended in Barangay Poblacion, Makato town in this province on July 25.
Maximo Manocan, 54, and a resident of B188 Solido, Nabas town was caught by personnel of the Special Colorum Team (SCT) of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6.
Manocan was taken into custody by the Makato police station. He is facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 11659, or the New Public Service Act.
The van, meanwhile, was impounded at the LTO Kalibo District Office.
LTO-6 said Manocan’s van was determined to be privately owned and lacked the necessary authorization from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to operate as a public utility vehicle.
According to the SCT, the white van with plate number FHP242, operated by an unknown dispatcher, was soliciting passengers at a makeshift terminal in Barangay Funda-Dalipe, San Jose, Antique.
To further confirm the illegal activity, an SCT member posed as a passenger and boarded the vehicle. It was discovered that the driver was charging fares of P150, P100, P80, and P50 for transporting multiple passengers./PN
