ILOILO – A motorcycle driver was declared dead on arrival at Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Cabatuan following a collision with a wing van early Monday morning, October 28, in the town’s Barangay Talanghauan.
The victim was identified as Felberth Ceballos from Barangay Gaub, Cabatuan while the driver of the wing van was Jerald Suela, 41 years old and a resident of Barangay Lacadon, Sta. Barbara town.
In a Panay News interview, Captain Aileen Lacrite, chief of the Cabatuan Municipal Police Station, said the wing van was reversing from a garage when it was struck from behind by Ceballos’s motorcycle, which was traveling toward Sta. Barbara.
Lacrite said the wing van was moving slowly during the reverse with a guide assisting the driver. Suela, meanwhile, said he heard a sudden impact at the back while he was reversing, with his signal lights engaged.
The collision left a large dent on the rear of the wing van while the front of the motorcycle was severely damaged due to the impact.
Further investigation revealed that the victim and his cousin had been drinking before the accident.
Lacrite added the victim’s family and the wing van driver are scheduled to meet./PN
