MANILA – Former President Rodrigo Duterte has urged his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio, to leave politics at the soonest and not seek the presidency in the 2028 polls.
In a press conference in Davao City over the weekend, Duterte said his daughter must be contented that she was elected Vice President following his presidential term.
“Si Inday, pasalamat ka na lang sa Diyos na ang tatay mo naging Presidente, ikaw naging Vice President. Bihirang-bihira yan, bihira sa isang pamilya,” the former chief executive said.
“Hindi lahat ng pamilya sa Pilipinas… pasalamat na lang tayo. Now, as fast as you can, get out of politics,” the elder Duterte added. “Maghanapbuhay ka, negosyo, basta mabuhay ka lang [ng] mapayapa. Umalis ka na dyan sa pulitika.”
“Si Inday, pumasok ng politika. You have to navigate yourself in the sea of power. Hindi ko maturuan si Inday, hindi ko magpagsabihan. Hindi nakikinig sa akin ‘yan. ‘Yan ang anak ko na hindi nakikinig sa akin,” he further said.
Duterte-Carpio is currently facing scrutiny on the budget use of the Vice President’s office and that of the Department of Education when she served as Education chief for almost two years.
Members of the House of Representatives have recently raised questions related to the Commission on Audit’s findings that the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) use of confidential funds was accompanied by inconsistent acknowledgement receipts.
The Vice President has maintained that she did not misuse OVP funds and that the congressional inquiry is just a test case for impeachment./PN
