BACOLOD City – The city government has allocated P5 million for Christmas lights and decorations in several parts of the city.
The City Engineering Office (CEO) spearheaded the installation of decorations at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), Bacolod Public Plaza, flyovers in barangays Bata and Singcang-Airport, and the north and south portion of Lacson Street.
“The decorations are not only composed of Christmas lights but the city has also utilized fabricated materials… That is why we have invested this much for the decorations,” explained Engr. Loben Ceballos, officer-in-charge of the CEO.
Meanwhile, the city government, through the City Tourism Office, and STI-West Negros University has officially begun the Christmas celebration with the Lights On Ceremony and Festival of Lights with the theme, “Christmas for Kids” at the BCGC on Sunday, December 8.
Tonight, the Bacolod Public Plaza will also be lit up.
The city government had earlier engaged citizens, organizations, and business establishments to adopt-a-tree at the plaza.
In Executive Order 63, series of 2024, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the initiative aims to bring the community together in the true spirit of giving by donating Christmas lights to adorn the trees at the plaza.
The program is “more than just decorating trees; it’s about fostering a sense of community and volunteerism,” he added./PN
