Bacolod gov’t monitors bulk water supplier following pipe breakage

BACOLOD City – The city government here continues to monitor the bulk water supplier following the recent pipe breakage incident in Barangay Mansilingan which affected several households.

“The city will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure that necessary measures are implemented, accountability is upheld, and residents receive uninterrupted access to clean and safe water,” Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said in a Facebook post.

He also said that he acknowledged Bacolod Bulk Water Inc.’s (BBWI), the bulk water supplier of Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa)-PrimeWater, swift response to the incident that caused temporary flooding in parts of Barangay Mansilingan, including Ging and Raymundo streets, and 6th Road, Hermelinda Homes on Saturday.

“BBWI plays a vital role in ensuring a stable and reliable water supply for Bacolod. While we recognize their efforts to expand and enhance water delivery, we must emphasize the critical need for strict safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future,” Mayor Benitez added.

Following the incident, BBWI extended its apologies to the affected households.

It said that temporary flooding was experienced at around 12:20 p.m. on Saturday within the vicinity of the Baciwa 6500 ground reservoir in the said barangay.

BBWI said the incident occurred during the chlorination and disinfection process of the company’s 800mm transmission lines, which is part of their efforts to deliver an additional 10 to 25 million liters a day (MLD) of water supply to benefit the Bacolodnons.

“Our team promptly responded by closing the necessary valves to halt the flooding,” it said.

BBWI added that it takes full responsibility for what happened and reached out directly to the affected households, committing to compensate for any damages caused by the incident, including the cleaning of the affected areas./PN
