ILOILO City – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 is set to begin the long-overdue distribution of motorcycle license plates registered between 2014 and 2017, with rollout tentatively scheduled this April.
Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan said the move aims to clear a decade-long backlog that has left thousands of motorcycle owners without official plates due to procurement and production issues dating back to 2014.
“This is more than just a distribution drive — it’s a commitment to better road safety, efficient public service, and improved law enforcement,” Geduspan said, emphasizing that proper registration aids in tracking motorcycles used in criminal activities, especially in riding-in-tandem incidents.
To address previous delays, the LTO has invested P1 billion in new laser engravers to ramp up plate production and improve operational efficiency. Geduspan assured that plate availability is no longer an issue and that regional offices are fully equipped to handle the high volume of releases.
Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II also acknowledged the extended delay but said the agency is now in a stronger position to resolve the backlog, as part of a nationwide push to finalize pending plate distributions.
Motorcycle owners with initial registrations from 2014 to 2017 are advised to coordinate with their respective dealers or visit the nearest LTO office. Claimants must present a photocopy of their Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR), while authorized representatives must also provide an authorization letter.
Full implementation is expected by June 2025, as LTO Region 6 works toward ensuring that all registered motorcycles in the region are properly documented and identifiable./PN
