BACOLOD City – A 35-year-old farmer with gunshot wounds was found dead on Thursday morning, March 27, in Sitio Dugma, Barangay Malatas, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.
Calatrava police said the victim identified as alias “Palong”, a resident of the said place, was found lifeless lying on the grassy area by a passing fellow farmer.
Investigation revealed that the incident happened while the victim was on his way home from spending the night at his sibling’s house in the town’s Barangay Tamang.
Police said they were looking into personal grudges as possible motive behind the killing.
Authorities added a person of interest was identified.
The aforementioned incident was the third fatal shooting in Calatrava in a week.
Records from the Calatrava Municipal Police Station revealed that the earlier incidents included the deaths of two other farmers — one in Sitio Calanugan, Barangay Minapasuk on March 25, and another in Sitio Cambalogbog II, Barangay Telim on March 26.
Despite these alarming events, Calatrava police chief Major Wilfredo Benoman assured residents that these are isolated cases.
He emphasized that local authorities are working diligently to maintain peace and order in the municipality. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
