ROXAS City – A driver and his backrider died after their motorcycle collided with a parked 10-wheeler cargo truck on Arnaldo Boulevard, Barangay Baybay here around 5:30 a.m. yesterday.
Roxas City Emergency Response Team quickly responded to the site, applied first aid to the victims identified as aliases “Roy” and “Carl”, both residents of the city, and rushed them to the nearest hospital but they were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Authorities said the victims sustained fatal head injuries and were allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
According to witnesses, while the victims were traveling from Barangay Baybay without helmets, they suddenly hit the parked truck.
“Na-obserbaran nila allegedly nga wala kuno helmet, nga makasulubo bala, kay tungod gina-remind gid naton ina pirme nga kon naga-gamit sang motorsiklo, dapat naka-helmet kag isa ina sa pinaka-importante nga bagay nga pagahimuon once gasakay sa single nga motor,” Traffic Management Unit (TMU) head Gonzalo Andrada said in a radio interview.
He added that they are constantly reminding motorists to wear helmets and refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages while driving.
As of this writing, the driver of the truck was taken into custody by the Roxas City Police Station while further investigation was ongoing./PN
