CAPIZ – To stand as a beacon of hope for a cleaner and healthier environment, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Capiz, in support of the Capiz Provincial Government, sustains its commitment to Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) sa Bagong Pilipinas Program.
The program is a visionary convergence initiative under the Office of the President and was officially launched on January 6, 2024.
Based on the data presented by the DILG-Capiz, 473 barangays participated in the clean-up drive last year. Four of which were selected and became part of 2024 Regional Showcase.
This year, the department announced that its environmental campaign is ongoing and eight barangays were selected to once again join in the Regional Showcase which runs from April to October 2025.
These barangays are Agustin Navarra in Ivisan, Dapdapan in Sapian, Taft in Tapaz, Agtambi in Dao, Nagba in Cuartero, Cadio in Panit-an, Lantangan in Pontevedra, and Poblacion Sur in Sigma. Two of which were listed as Hall of Famers for the Province of Capiz – Agustin Navarra and Dapdapan.
With its core objective – to consolidate efforts from diverse sectors, fostering a collective commitment to a safe and vibrant ecosystem – the program lies in the empowerment of local government units and the activation of community participation, rooted in the cherished Filipino tradition of bayanihan.
Peter John D. Licuran, Local Government Operations Officer III and KALINISAN focal person, confirmed the program’s effectivity as residents’ environmental awareness became more visible and their high sense of community responsibility resulted in a decrease in several incidents or cases of waterborne diseases in the province.
The KALINISAN Program was participated in by barangay officials, functionaries, and their constituents, including residents from nearby barangays. DILG also partnered with the representatives from the provincial government.
Also in attendance were representatives from various national government agencies, including the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)./PN
