CAPIZ — Despite having no confirmed cases of monkeypox (mpox), the Capiz provincial government remains on full alert in response to the rising number of infections in other areas
In a statement issued on May 29, 2025, the Capiz Provincial Health Office (CPHO) reassured the public of the province’s readiness to respond to potential mpox cases. The announcement followed a May 28 press conference in neighboring Iloilo, where health authorities confirmed the province’s first mpox case and reported four more suspected cases under monitoring.
According to the CPHO, medications for mpox are available, and all health facilities are fully equipped to handle potential mpox infections. Isolation and case management protocols are also in place to ensure rapid response if an outbreak occurs.
The CPHO also confirmed that an individual residing outside the province exhibited possible mpox symptoms while visiting the Municipality of Jamindan. Proactive measures have been initiated and are being continually implemented to mitigate the risk of disease transmission.
Residents are advised to seek medical consultation immediately if they experience symptoms such as unexplained rashes, sores in the mouth or genital area, or swollen lymph nodes, especially after close contact with someone exhibiting similar symptoms or with a confirmed mpox diagnosis.
Health authorities further cautioned that individuals who had sexual contact with same-sex partners or multiple partners within the past 21 days, and are now showing lesions in the genital or anal area, could be at increased risk of infection. Other mpox symptoms include fever, chills, muscle or back pain, fatigue, and overall weakness.
