GUIMARAS – The island province of Guimaras remains free from any recorded cases of monkeypox (mpox), according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
In a public health advisory released on Wednesday, May 28, the PHO assured residents that the province has not logged any mpox infections as of this time.
“As of now, the Provincial Health Office of Guimaras informs the public that there are no recorded cases of monkeypox in the province,” stated Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Cathrel A. Nava.
Despite the mpox-free status, Dr. Nava urged Guimarasnons to remain vigilant and cautious, particularly if they observe symptoms such as rashes accompanied by fever, headache, muscle pain, body aches, and fatigue.
“We are asking everyone to be extra careful and alert for signs of mpox, especially if rashes come with fever and other flu-like symptoms,” she added.
To prevent the spread of mpox and other communicable diseases, the PHO reiterated the following health protocols:
* Practice respiratory etiquette – Cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing.
* Ensure proper ventilation in frequently occupied spaces.
* Wash hands regularly with soap and clean water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
* Seek immediate medical consultation at the nearest health facility if symptoms occur.
Dr. Nava also assured the public that the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU), the Disease Surveillance Units (DSUs) of five Primary Care Facilities (PCFs), and various hospitals in Guimaras are actively monitoring notifiable diseases, including mpox.
