IVISAN, Capiz – With young people increasingly vulnerable to the dangers of illegal drugs, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Poblacion Sur and the Ivisan Municipal Police Station have joined forces to launch an information drive aimed at empowering the youth in the fight against substance abuse.
Held as part of a local youth camp, the symposium on Illegal Drugs Prevention and Awareness was spearheaded by Police Major Ruby Magallanes, chief of the Ivisan Police Station, who emphasized the critical role that young people play in curbing the drug menace.
“Illegal drugs continue to plague communities, but awareness and early intervention through education are among our best defenses. The youth are not just targets — they are powerful allies,” said Magallanes during her lecture.
She warned that drug abuse remains a persistent threat in Capiz and urged participants to be vigilant and take part in the wider campaign to make Ivisan drug-free. She also stressed that the war on drugs should not be left solely to law enforcement but must be a shared responsibility across all sectors, particularly among young people.
The event is part of the Ivisan police’s broader strategy to promote community resilience and informed engagement through grassroots-level initiatives. Feedback from attendees highlighted the symposium’s impact, with many citing a deeper understanding of how drugs destroy lives and communities.
