ILOILO City – Despite a significant territorial reorganization that excluded Negros Occidental from its jurisdiction, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region 6 has recorded over one million enrollees for School Year 2025-2026.
Based on the enrollment quick count as of 4 a.m. on June 20, a total of 1,014,605 learners have enrolled across the eight Schools Division Offices (SDOs) covering Panay Island and Guimaras.
DepEd-6 information officer Hernani Escullar Jr. said the number is expected to increase further in the coming days, as the region continues to accept late enrollees.
“There are no guidelines yet from our Central Office to stop accepting enrollees, so we continue to accommodate learners,” Escullar told Panay News.
Here is the breakdown of enrolled learners per division:
* Iloilo – 420,777
* Antique – 142,433
* Aklan – 134,910
* Capiz – 121,592
* Iloilo City – 96,771
* Guimaras – 42,328
* Roxas City – 34,499
* Passi City – 21,295
Breakdown by grade level:
* Kindergarten to Grade 6 – 526,046
* Grades 7 to 10 – 328,576
* Grade 11 – 79,824
* Grade 12 – 80,159
Public schools in the region opened classes on June 16, while private schools are allowed to set their own school calendars, provided they meet the required number of class days.
Region 6 currently supervises 2,836 public schools, 596 private schools, and 10 state and local universities and colleges (SUCs/LUCs).
In contrast, enrollment during School Year 2024-2025 reached 1.9 million due to the inclusion of Negros Occidental, which had 13 SDOs under Region 6. With the reconfiguration, Region 6 now covers only the eight SDOs of Panay and Guimaras./PN
