BACOLOD City – The newly constructed Cancer Care Center located within the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in this city remains non-operational due to the absence of a power supply.

According to District Engineer Leah Jamero of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)–Bacolod Engineering District, they are currently in talks with the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) for the installation of electricity.

Jamero explained that the center requires a separate power line and transformer independent from the main hospital to ensure the facility can function properly.

Earlier, outgoing Cong. Greg Gasataya revealed that an additional budget of P50 million is needed to fully equip the facility and make it operational.

The Cancer Care Center is a two-story building worth P34 million under its first phase. Construction began in 2024 and is now nearing completion.

Gasataya, who facilitated the development of the project, said the center is a dedicated healthcare facility aimed at addressing the growing number of cancer cases in the city, particularly breast cancer.

Gasataya also shared that he is actively working with the Department of Health (DOH) to acquire the necessary medical equipment for the center. Plans are also underway for the facility’s expansion to accommodate more patients in the future.

“We are now helping facilitate the procurement and installation of equipment needed by the center. CLMMRH has already submitted the list of essential equipment required to begin operations,” Gasataya said.

Once operational, the Cancer Care Center will be managed and operated by CLMMRH./PN
