
MANILA – The Women’s National Football Team cruised to a dominant 3-0 victory over Saudi Arabia to start their 2026 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualification tournament on Sunday night at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Jacklyn Sawicki, Meryll Serrano, and Alexa Pino converted a goal each for the national women’s football squad as they took an early lead in their pool with three points (1-0-0).
Serrano, a member of FK Haugesund squad in Norway, set the tone early by assisting Sawicki’s first-ever international goal in the 16th minute, giving the Filipinas an early lead.
Serrano then doubled the advantage in the 55th minute with a brilliant solo effort, Pino sealed the win with a clinical strike in the 81st minute securing the win for head coach Mark Toscano.
Filipinas will continue their action on Wednesday night against host Cambodia before concluding their group stage campaign against Hong Kong on Friday evening.
Only the top team in each group will advance to the next phase, with the Filipinas eyeing a spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Australia next year./PN
