LTO: No plate, no travel; Over 13,000 plates released as agency pushes roadside inspections and weekend services

ILOILO – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 is stepping up its enforcement drive against unregistered vehicles and missing license plates, signalling a tougher stance on traffic violations with a planned “No Plate, No Travel” policy to be rolled out soon.

The crackdown is part of a broader road safety campaign ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and backed by Department of Transportation (DOTr) decretary Vince Dizon, which tasks regional offices with improving the visibility of vehicle identification and compliance with registration laws.

“Enforcing plate display rules will support law enforcement and improve road safety,” said LTO-6 regional director Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II.

To accelerate the issuance of delayed motor plates, LTO-6 has already distributed more than 13,000 plates to tricycles-for-hire and over 200 to private motorcycle and tricycle owners. The agency is also extending operations of its New Registration Unit to Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to accommodate vehicle owners who cannot visit on weekdays.

“We encourage all affected vehicle owners to take advantage of our New Registration Unit — even on weekends — to ensure a more efficient and expedited release of their license plates,” said Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu.

LTO-6 is also intensifying roadside inspections, with law enforcers and deputized personnel verifying compliance with Section 18 of Republic Act No. 4136, which mandates the proper display of number plates at all times.

To support motorists, LTO-6 is promoting the use of the LTO Plate Tracker (https://ltotracker.com), an online platform that allows users to check the availability of their plates. Officers are demonstrating the tracker during checkpoints and inspection stops.

These efforts aim not only to boost registration compliance and reduce backlog but also to ensure safer roads throughout Western Visayas./PN
