CAPIZ – In a continuing effort to promote local products and support grassroots economies, this province recently showcased its homegrown produce during a street market held under the KADIWA ng Pangulo (KNP) Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas program at the Capiz Provincial Park.
The vibrant marketplace featured a wide variety of fresh agricultural products, providing local farmers with an accessible platform to sell their goods at fair prices — benefiting both the producers and consumers.
The latest KADIWA events drew large crowds and highlighted the province’s rich agricultural heritage.
Dianne B. Calanza, president of the Timpas Women’s Association in Panitan town, expressed her appreciation for the KADIWA initiative. Her group participated in the day-long street market, selling vegetables and other produce.
“This program is an incredible support for all of us farmers and fisherfolk,” Calanza said. “It allows us to earn income and even provides compensation for our participation. It truly boosts our livelihoods and strengthens our community.” She extended her gratitude to the organizers for creating this valuable avenue to market their products and engage with the public.
Launched in 2023 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the KNP program is a multi-agency initiative implemented through the joint efforts of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Presidential Management Staff (PMS), and the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
The collaboration underscores the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of farmers and fisherfolk while enhancing national food security.
Calanza also shared that the next KADIWA market is set for July 11 at the Capiz Provincial Park. Since June, monthly KADIWA events have also been held at the Philippine Postal Corporation to encourage greater community involvement.
A key component of the initiative is the active participation of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly through DTI support. This strategy aims to not only promote local businesses but also strengthen the community-based economy by ensuring that economic opportunities are distributed among local stakeholders.
At least six more KADIWA ng Pangulo street markets are scheduled at the provincial park from August to December this year, continuing the push to empower local producers and cultivate a thriving, inclusive local economy./PN
