SHARON Cuneta shut down rumors of her taking Ozempic in her weight loss journey — a drug that helps manage one’s blood sugar for diabetes medication, and now a popular solution to shed pounts — reiterating that she cannot abuse her own body due to an underlying heart problem.

While it is used as an anti-diabetes drug, Ozempic also gained popularity especially among Hollywood stars as a weight loss medication and is administered subcutaneously.

In an interview with Karmina Constantino on her YouTube channel on Saturday, July 19, Cuneta said she never went on the particular drug when asked by the broadcast journalist about the topic, while going into full detail on why she decided to lose weight.

“People would say it’s Ozempic. Tell me first, what is wrong with Ozempic? Absolutely nothing, right? Of course, you don’t want to take the stash of somebody who really has high blood sugar levels. You don’t want to take their stash away when it’s becoming scarce,” she said, noting it’s an important drug for those who need it.

“But I never went on Ozempic. I tried another medication once. I could not handle it,” she continued.

The actress-singer said that due to her underlying heart condition, she needs to be mindful of the medicines and other related treatments she needs to take, as she couldn’t abuse her body. “Anything I couldn’t do from my own willpower and anything that made me feel artificial, [should be] stopped… I could not [handle it].”

The “Family of Two” star recalled the time she decided to lose weight in 2016. However, her weight loss journey took quite some time because she “felt hopeless” about what might happen.

“I made the decision to lose weight when I turned 50 in 2016. Because I had ruined my metabolism by going on crash diets, and the rebound would be worse than what I lost, and that [affected] my metabolism. When I made that decision in 2016, I wasn’t even sure if my body would respond in a positive way,” she said.

Staying on the topic, Cuneta explained that she decided to lose weight due to the nature of her work and wanting to see her grandkids in the future.

This is not the first time Cuneta addressed the allegations that she had taken Ozempic. She briefly denied taking the drug in March 2025 in response to a netizen’s query in one of her Instagram posts. (Hannah Mallorca © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
