SP urges DOTr chief to establish LTFRB office in Bacolod

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) is urging Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon to immediately establish a satellite office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in this city.

The request was formalized through a proposed resolution authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., emphasizing the critical role of the LTFRB in developing and implementing policies, laws, and regulations concerning public land transportation.

The LTFRB is responsible for granting Certificates of Public Convenience (CPC) to public utility vehicle (PUV) operators, ensuring they meet safety and service standards on designated routes.

Gamboa said that drivers and operators of PUVs in the city are currently experiencing difficulties in securing CPCs and other transportation documents due to the absence of a local LTFRB office.

He added that the resolution was crafted following a committee conference with drivers and operators from various transport associations in the city. During the meeting, transport groups appealed for the establishment of an LTFRB office in Bacolod, citing the inconvenience of having to travel back and forth to Iloilo City to process their documents.

“The accessibility of services is a major concern. The lack of a nearby LTFRB office burdens our transport operators, both financially and logistically,” the councilor noted.

The proposed resolution aims to bring essential LTFRB services closer to Bacolod constituents, improving efficiency and accessibility for the local transport sector./PN
