THE Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is slashing overnight parking fees in half for travelers who will use the airport.
In a Facebook post, NAIA said air passengers can park at the airport, then bring their ticket and boarding pass when they travel.
Once they return, they can show their ticket and boarding pass to the counter. They will then be asked to pay only half of the standard overnight rate.
This brings down the overnight parking fee for cars from P1,2000 for 24 hours to P600.
For buses, this brings down the fee to P1,200 for 24 hours from P2,400; and for motorcycles, it goes down to P240 from P480.
The operators of the country’s main gateway raised parking fees in October to “prioritize” passengers, noting that the lower parking rates “unintentionally encouraged misuse of the airport’s limited parking spaces.”
At least one group has questioned before the Supreme Court the increases in airport fees under the new San Miguel-led NAIA operator, saying that the Public Private Partnership Code never empowered implementing agencies to grant their private partners unbridled power to fix any kind or category of rate or charge.
A House lawmaker also wants to investigate the privatization of the NAIA. (ABS-CBN News)
