BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on women, gender and family urged barangays anew to strictly enforce the ordinance on curfew hours for minors.
Councilor Celia Flor, chairperson of the said committee, said only Barangay Alangilan is actively implementing City Ordinance (CO) No. 331, series of 2003, or an ordinance providing special protection for children during nighttime by imposing a curfew on minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
This comes after several minors were seen still roaming around the village late at night.
Following this, Flor said she will propose a resolution to the SP requesting all barangay officials to strictly implement the curfew ordinance.
“Minors out on the streets at night tend to be exposed to improper or pernicious influences, or hazards to their life and limb, or to vicious persons who prey on the young for their illegal and immoral trades, and other dangers that may lurk in the darkness,” read part of the ordinance.
The city councilor added that violators of the ordinance will be given warning for the first offense and eight hours of community service for the second offense. For third and subsequent offense, violators will do 16 hours of community service and an additional eight hours for every other subsequent offense./PN
