BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has urged the public to take precautionary measures to secure their homes and properties during the upcoming long weekend.
August 21 has been declared a special non-working holiday in observance of Ninoy Aquino Day, while August 25 is a regular holiday marking National Heroes Day. With August 23 to 25 forming a long weekend, police anticipate that many families may go on trips or vacations.
BCPO director Colonel Joeresty Coronica reminded residents not to be complacent with their valuables and to observe basic safety practices to prevent theft or burglary.
The BCPO shared the following security tips:
* Make sure all windows, doors, and gates are locked before leaving or going to bed.
* Avoid leaving valuables such as gadgets or wallets in plain view.
* If possible, install CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and sensor lights to deter intruders.
* Inform a trusted neighbor when leaving home for an extended period.
* Refrain from posting vacation plans or whereabouts on social media until after returning.
