
NEGROS Occidental – Two senior citizens drowned in separate incidents on Tuesday, August 26, in Victorias City and Hinigaran town.
Police reported that a 67-year-old fisherman from Villa Miranda, Barangay 6-A, Victorias City, was discovered lifeless in the river at around 7 a.m.
Victorias City police said alias “Rene” left their house at around 3 a.m. to prepare his motorized banca for fishing but went missing shortly after. His wife searched for him an hour later but failed to find him. By 7 a.m., a witness spotted a body floating in the river and later confirmed it was the victim.
Authorities said the body showed no signs of violence when retrieved from the river. He was taken to the Victorias Emergency Clinic but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
In Hinigaran, the lifeless body of a 76-year-old farmer from Barangay Aranda was found floating in the Camansi River in Sitio Mansulao at about 2 p.m.
Police said alias “Gido” told a friend on August 25 that he planned to stay at his farm near the river to continue his charcoal production and take a swim.
Investigators also found no signs of injury on the victim’s body and confirmed he died from drowning. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
