MANILA — Negrense boxer Flint Jara spared the Philippines from a gold medal shutout, delivering the country’s lone top-podium finish at the 2025 Belt and Road International Boxing Tournament in Xinjiang, China.
The Bago City, Negros Occidental native’s golden triumph stood out as the highlight of the national contingent’s campaign, bringing pride to his hometown and reaffirming the Philippines’ place in the region’s amateur boxing scene.
“We are immensely proud of your success, Kasimanwa!” the city government said in a statement honoring Jara’s feat, with Bago City Mayor Mayette Javellana leading the chorus of congratulations.
The rest of the Philippine squad also showcased grit with a respectable medal haul. Claveria’s Althea Shine Pores took a silver medal, while her sister Shairylle Pores bagged a bronze. Claudine Veloso added another silver, and Tyler Tanap along with Patricia Mae Sumalinog each earned a bronze.
The tournament, which featured some of the best amateur fighters from Asia and beyond, was a key proving ground for young boxers aiming to gain international experience and prepare for tougher battles.
Officials from the Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) lauded the fighters’ performance, stressing that the results reflect the continued strength of the country’s grassroots boxing program.
