BACOLOD City — The “Trillion Peso March” in the Negros Island Region (NIR) on September 21, coinciding with the 53rd anniversary of martial law, was conducted peacefully, authorities reported.

According to the Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR), security deployment for the event was successfully executed, ensuring the orderly conduct of rallies with no untoward incidents or escalation under the leadership of Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director.

A total of 1,879 police personnel were deployed across the region, strategically stationed at rally sites, major thoroughfares, and other critical areas to maintain visibility and enable rapid response. The rallies drew approximately 3,350 participants across NIR.

PRO-NIR confirmed that no disturbances or crimes were reported during the activities, a testament to the effectiveness of the security measures. The public assemblies were conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, safeguarding the safety of both participants and the general public.

“The primary objectives of the security operations were fully achieved: peace and order were maintained, public safety was ensured, and citizens were able to exercise their rights peacefully and with respect for authority,” the PRO NIR said in a statement.

The peaceful outcome was credited to a well-coordinated deployment, close collaboration with local government units (LGUs) and partner agencies, effective intelligence monitoring, and situational awareness.

“Public cooperation and adherence to guidelines were crucial in maintaining order. The success of the operations highlighted the non-violent culture of Negrenses and Siquijodnons, reinforced by sound security preparations, respect for human rights, maximum tolerance, and strong support from LGUs and communities,” the statement added.

Ibay expressed gratitude to the rallyists for their discipline and cooperation, noting that their conduct was key to the success of the event. He also thanked deployed security personnel, LGUs, and the Church for their indispensable roles in ensuring a safe and orderly assembly.

“I reaffirm PRO-NIR’s commitment to safeguard peace, maintain public order, ensure public safety, uphold the rule of law, and protect the rights and welfare of the people of Negros Island and Siquijor,” he said./PN
