ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has reaffirmed its allegiance to the government, distancing itself from rumors of unrest and coup d’état plots amid intensifying political tensions and corruption controversies hounding national agencies.
Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, PRO-6 regional director, said the Western Visayas police remain committed to their constitutional duty to maintain peace and stability in the region, emphasizing that discipline and obedience to lawful authority are the backbone of their service.
“We are bound to serve. Remember, being members of an organizational structure, we follow the chain of command. There’s no doubt that PRO-6 remains committed and loyal to the Republic of the Philippines and to this institution,” Ligan said in an interview.
He reminded the police force that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is a non-partisan organization guided by professionalism and integrity, even as the political climate grows increasingly heated.
Ligan also praised Western Visayans for their discipline during the “Trillion Peso March” held on September 21, 2025 — a nationwide protest that saw thousands expressing outrage over alleged government corruption.
“Thank you to everyone who participated. The people in Western Visayas are very well-disciplined. They followed the protocols in protest rallies — walang gulo, maayos lahat. Even the priests were there to help. It was peaceful and successful in expressing their sentiments,” he said.
Calling the event “democracy in action,” Ligan said the peaceful demonstration reflected not only effective law enforcement but also the region’s growing civic maturity.
“It was an example of democracy in action — people asserting their views responsibly,” he added.
Ligan said Western Visayas continues to be a model for peaceful civic engagement, with police and citizens alike showing that order and dissent can coexist under a stable democracy./PN
