MANILA – Savannah Davison made an explosive debut in the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference as she spearheaded the PLDT High Speed Hitters’ emphatic straight-sets demolition of the Capital1 Solar Spikers, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23, on Monday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Filipina-Canadian outside hitter erupted for 22 points built on 15 attacks and an imposing seven blocks, earning Player of the Game honors as the High Speed Hitters launched their three-peat bid in dominating fashion.
“They are keeping the fire burning for me, day in and day out, inside or outside the court. I could not do it without these girls. I’m just glad that they are there by my side,” said Davison, who credited her teammates for their consistency and composure throughout the match.
Capital1 tried to extend the duel by taking a brief 21-20 lead in the third set, but PLDT quickly recovered behind a 5-2 finishing surge capped by a thunderous Davison hit that sealed the sweep.
“I think we know that we play better when we keep the internal pressure off from the outer — to keep our standards. When we’re on the court, we just want to chill,” Davison said.
With an eye on another title run, Davison added: “A couple more tallies on the win column, we would like to be the last team standing of course, but it is a long road there. We just want to stay healthy and stay competitive.”
Meanwhile, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans shrugged off the absence of their American reinforcement Anyse Smith to outlast the Cignal Super Spikers, 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 27-25, in the other match.
Smith sat out due to pending transfer paperwork, but the Flying Titans’ local crew delivered a gritty performance led by libero Thang Ponce, who anchored the floor defense with 32 excellent digs and 20 receptions to bag Player of the Game honors./PN
