BACOLOD City — Prolonged heavy rainfall on Tuesday, October 14, caused flooding in several parts of Bacolod City, prompting residents to evacuate and traffic to grind to a near standstill in key areas.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that flooding occurred in 11 barangays, with 41 residents from Barangay 3 and 65 residents from Barangay Villamonte forced to leave their homes for safety. Other affected barangays include 4, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, 19, and Mandalagan.
Traffic was heavily affected, particularly along Lacson Street and near the Bacolod Public Plaza, where festival stalls for the ongoing MassKara Festival contributed to congestion.
Residents expressed frustration over the recurring severe flooding, questioning the status of flood control projects in the city.
Authorities and barangay officials were closely monitoring the situation, advising the public to stay alert for possible further flooding. Residents were reminded not to wade through deep floodwaters to avoid safety and health risks.
