BACOLOD City – The city government of Bacolod has launched the Youth Lounge and Co-working Space located at the Bacolod Express Service Office (BESO) on the third floor of Ayala Malls Capitol Central on Thursday, October 24.
Mayor Greg Gasataya led the inauguration of the facility, which aims to provide young Bacolodnons with an interactive and inclusive space where they can access information, resources, and programs that support their personal, social, and professional development.
The Youth Lounge offers a variety of free services, including a lounge and study area, printing services, Wi-Fi access, meeting room reservations, sharing sessions, and even instant coffee.
The facility is open to the youth of Bacolod from Monday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. It was established through Executive Order No. 018, issued by Mayor Gasataya on July 18, 2025, creating a Youth Lounge in the city and outlining its functions and implementation.
City Ordinance No. 396, Series of 2005, had earlier established the Bacolod Sangguniang Kabataan Youth Center (BSKYC) as the official office and hub of the SK Federation, institutionalizing a space for youth governance and participation.
However, despite its institutional foundation, the original Youth Center had been left without proper maintenance, recognition, or use for several years.
In line with the city government’s renewed commitment to youth empowerment, the establishment of the new Youth Lounge and Co-working Space marks a reinvigoration of local efforts to support young people’s engagement, creativity, and well-being.
Mayor Gasataya said the facility will serve as a hub for capacity-building programs, mental health support, creative expression, civic engagement, and access to youth-focused government services.
“This will be a safe, inclusive, and resource-enriched venue where young people can develop their skills, share ideas, and participate in leadership and development activities,” he said.
He added that the co-working component provides a flexible and collaborative environment for freelancers, startups, and small teams to work independently or together.
The Bacolod City Youth Development Office (BCYDO) will manage the facility, with support from various city departments including the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and City Health Office (CHO)./PN
