NEGROS Occidental – A bread delivery helper was killed while another man was injured in a road accident involving three vehicles on Thursday morning, October 23, in Sitio Malasbalas, Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City in this province.
Police said Julian Jacolbe, 39, of Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, and his helper identified as Poldo Dela Cruz of Barangay Camugao were rushed by personnel of the Kabankalan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital.
Dela Cruz, who sustained severe head injuries, was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. John Dexter A. Lopez. Jacolbe, meanwhile, was recuperating at the hospital after suffering minor injuries.
Investigation revealed that the incident occurred at around 9:10 a.m.
According to Patrolman Romeo Elisan Jr., the tricycle driven by Jacolbe and the Mitsubishi Fuso panel van driven by Asher Perez, 44, of Cauayan town, were traveling in the same direction from Mabinay, Negros Oriental towards Kabankalan City. Another vehicle, a Toyota pickup driven by Cecilia Sonsona, 52, was approaching from the opposite lane.
Elisan added that upon reaching the accident site, Perez reportedly lost control of his vehicle, rear-ending the tricycle which was moving slowly due to ongoing road construction. The panel van then veered into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming pickup.
All three vehicles sustained significant damage, police added.
Perez and his van were taken into custody by the Kabankalan City Police Station for proper disposition. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
