NEGROS Occidental — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that two volcanic earthquakes occurred at Mount Kanlaon within the past 24 hours, covering October 27–28, 2025.
Monitoring data also showed the volcano emitted 1,870 tonnes/day of sulfur dioxide and produced a moderate plume reaching 150 meters in height.
Mt. Kanlaon remains at Alert Level 2, indicating increased volcanic unrest. Authorities continue to prohibit entry within the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and restrict aircraft from flying near the volcano.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay vigilant, follow safety guidelines, and avoid entering restricted areas.
The recent activity follows a brief explosive eruption on Friday, October 24, from 8:05 p.m. to 8:08 p.m., which generated ash plumes rising 2,000 meters above the crater.
The volcano remained active the next day, as three moderate steam-driven (phreatic) eruptions were recorded on Saturday morning, October 25, between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., each producing ash plumes up to 300 meters high.
