ILOILO City – A police officer involved in a fatal road accident that claimed the life of an 18-year-old college student in Jaro district here has been stripped of his driver’s license and barred from reapplying for four years by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6.
The sanction came after a thorough investigation by LTO-6 regional director Gaudioso Geduspan II and Intelligence Chief Shiela Mae Alulod, which found the officer’s “negligent conduct directly caused the tragic death.”
“His continued possession of a driver’s license poses a risk to public safety,” the LTO resolution stated.
The decision also placed the police officer’s record under “alarm,” meaning any attempt to drive within the disqualification period would result in a violation for driving without a license and vehicle impoundment.
The cop, who is assigned to the Police Regional Office 6’s health service, was driving an ambulance along the Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue (Diversion Road) in Barangay Dungon B, Jaro when he struck the student, who was crossing a pedestrian lane.
LTO officials said the revocation serves as a warning that even government personnel are not exempt from accountability under traffic laws.
The victim, who sustained critical injuries, was declared dead shortly after the collision./PN
