ILOILO City – Swift evacuation efforts and strong public cooperation helped Iloilo City weather Typhoon “Tino” on Tuesday without casualties or major incidents, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) said yesterday.
Darwin Joemil Papa, head of the CDRRMO’s Disaster Response Division, reported that residents in high-risk zones were safely moved to evacuation centers ahead of the typhoon’s landfall, while response teams remained on standby throughout the storm.
“We’ve already evacuated residents from high-risk areas, and they are now in safer zones,” Papa said. “Our teams are continuously monitoring the situation to ensure everyone’s safety.”
He noted that maintaining zero casualty relied heavily on the public’s discipline and cooperation. Those in non-threatened areas were reminded to stay indoors and refrain from unnecessary travel while the weather remained unstable.
“To those in safe zones, please stay inside your homes and wait for the storm to pass,” he said. “Avoid going out unless it’s to buy essential supplies. This will help us prevent accidents and allow emergency responders to focus on areas that need immediate attention.”
Papa further urged residents to heed only official advisories from the Iloilo City Government, CDRRMO, and Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to avoid misinformation.
“Let’s stay put, let’s prepare, let’s pray, and let’s help our good mayor to ensure zero casualty and zero major incident in the City of Iloilo during the passing of Typhoon Tino,” he said.
As of late Tuesday evening, the CDRRMO continued to monitor rainfall and water levels in coordination with barangay disaster teams and other emergency units, with the city remaining on alert for any aftereffects of the storm./PN
