
ILOILO — A 29-year-old sugarcane farm worker, or sacada, drowned while swimming in a river in Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, San Enrique town.
Police said the victim identified as alias “Sammy” went swimming with his fellow sacadas on Thursday morning, November 6, after work. He may have strayed into the deeper part of the river and drowned.
According to Cris Palomado, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), personnel of the MDRRMO and the Bureau of Fire Protection-San Enrique immediately launched a search and rescue operation. The victim’s remains were recovered at around 11:30 a.m.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician./PN
