MANY college graduates end up in call centers as agents even though they are not matched in their field because it’s the only available job that somehow has a higher income.
You completed a 4- to 5-year course but with the number of competitors with more experience or connections you will go home to work that is far from your plan. As long as you have work.
But just like in any other industry, if this is not really your dream job and it’s not your job concluded, it’s a good idea to plan ahead of time how to transition into the career you really want.
We really need a good reform in our wage system. The government should help raise wages based on the cost of living. We know that is not easy. But while we wait for a better system in our government, we still have to do and find a way so that we don’t stay stock in the life you don’t dream of.
The lack of financial literacy – another silent but strong reason why many Filipinos find it difficult to get out.
Financial literacy is the knowledge of how to correctly and properly use, accumulate and grow money. But there are many those of us who were not taught how to properly manage money. Many grew up only knowing how to save and save. So even until reaching the right age, just save up.
Don’t know how to grow the savings. The ending also has no ascent. There are also many when there are When big money comes in like a bonus or a gift, form is immediately prioritized over earning.
Instead of saving to invest, many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) also use remittance income for monthly family expenses. And to be honest, many Filipinos are better at spending than budgeting. The salary runs out immediately before the next salary arrives. The others have already memorized where and to whom to lend. That’s why 56 loans are still in fashion, especially in markets and in remote provinces. 75% of Filipinos have no savings. Eight out of every 10 workers do not have an emergency fund. That’s why financial education is so important.
Because no matter how much you earn, if you don’t know how to handle it right, it will come to nothing.
When I give Seminars for 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilinono) beneficiaries in the different municipalities of Province of Guimaras I always mention that lack of financial literacy is not only a personal problem but also a national issue. This is a big factor why many Filipinos cannot get out of financial struggles.
In today’s era where a lot of information is very accessible, learning how to properly handle money is no longer the case only one option. It is one of necessity. Corruption is one of the deepest roots of poverty in the Philippines. Even if you do everything right as a Filipino, work hard, save and save. But if the very system of our country is rotten, how can you really develop?
When public funds go into the pockets of a few, services do not reach those in need.
Instead of going to projects that help people such as education, health and infrastructures.
There is corruption, often the system is not fair.
The PhilHealth Scam is here. Billions of pesos are lost in ghost claims while many Filipinos cannot get treatment. Many farmers are also losing money due to smuggling and lack of government support.
The billion-peso budget for infrastructures that was stolen and divided by a few people in the government. Instead of hoping to help build classrooms, flood control projects, health centers, low-cost housing and roads.
If you have never felt anger, if you have never been insulted or never shed a tear, maybe you are not a true Filipino. We need a government that is real for the people. The one with conscience, the one with transparency and accountability. The one who can protect and defend us from the thieves of wealth. (To be continued)/PN
