GUIMARAS – This island province’s inflation remained sluggish in November this year, posting a deeper negative inflation rate of –1.3 percent, declining further from –0.1 percent in October.
This indicates that prices of goods and services continued to remain lower compared with the same month in 2024 when inflation was 2.5 percent, bringing the province’s year-to-date inflation from January to November 2025 to 2.3 percent, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
“The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Guimaras for November 2025 was recorded at 130.7. The CPI measures the average change in the prices of goods and services commonly purchased by households over time,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said. She added: “This implies that a typical Guimarasnon household needs P1,307 in November 2025 to purchase the same basket of goods and services worth P1,000.00 in 2018. The stability of the CPI from the previous month reflects the unchanged overall inflation rate of the province.”
The primary source of November 2025 inflation downtrend was the slower rate of food and non-alcoholic beverages with -4.9 percent in November dropped from -5.2 percent a month ago with 98.9 percent share.
The second source of trend was the falling price of transport with 4.7 percent inflation from 4.9 percent rate in October 2025, contributing 1.1 percent in the November Inflation.
Moreover, faster inflation trend was noted in the commodities of alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 8.0 percent from 7.8 percent, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with -1.9 percent from -2.6 percent, and health with 3.7 percent from 3.6 percent in October 2025.
The other eight commodities retained their previous month’s inflation rate (clothing and footwear: 3.0 percent, furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance: 0.2 percent, information and communication: 0.0 percent, recreation, sport and culture: 0.5 percent, education services: 0.8 percent, restaurants and accommodation services: 10.4 percent, financial services; 0.0 percent, and personal care, and miscellaneous goods and services: 1.3 percent).
And, the top three commodity groups that mainly contributed to the province’s overall inflation in November were food and non-alcoholic beverages, contributing 201.4 percent or 2.62 percentage point; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, contributing 22.2 percent or 0.29 percentage point; and education services, contributing 0.8 percent or 0.01 percentage point.
Meanwhile, the Purchasing Power of the Peso (PPP) in Guimaras was recorded at P0.77 in November.
“This means that the value of P1.00 in 2018 is equivalent to only P0.77 in November 2025,” Losare said. “From January to November 2025, the PPP in the province ranged from P0.74 to P0.77. The lowest level of P0.74 occurred in January 2025, while the highest value of P0.77 was recorded in November 2025. Earlier peaks of P0.76 were noted in April, July, September, and October 2025.”/PN
