ILOILO — With holiday travel surging sharply, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 6 is doing intensified inspections, enforcement, and commuter assistance across Western Visayas via “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos! Pasko 2025” from December 20, 2025 to January 4, 2026, targeting safer roads, terminals, and transport hubs during the Christmas and New Year rush.
The region-wide operation focuses on ensuring the roadworthiness and safe operation of public utility vehicles (PUVs) through terminal, roadside, airport, and seaport inspections, amid heightened travel volume during the peak holiday season.
The campaign is being spearheaded by the Regional Law Enforcement Section (RLES) under Relin Reyes, with operational oversight from Regional Director Gaudioso P. Geduspan II and Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu. Enforcement teams will be deployed to major land transport terminals in Iloilo City and seaports across the province to prevent unsafe vehicles from operating.
“Public safety is our top priority, especially during the holiday season when more people are on the move,” Geduspan said.
“We want to ensure that all public transport vehicles meet safety standards to prevent any accidents,” he added.
In preparation for the operation, LTO-6 held coordination meetings where enforcement personnel, including Shiela Mae Alulod, finalized deployment schedules and operational strategies to manage the anticipated influx of holiday travelers efficiently.
Aside from terminal inspections, LTO-6 personnel will conduct roadside checks, traffic direction and control, and inspections at airports and seaports to strengthen safety at critical transport points. Public Assistance Desks will also be set up at major terminals to assist commuters and provide guidance on safe travel practices.
As part of its information campaign, LTO-6 will distribute Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials highlighting key road safety laws, including the Seat Belts Use Act (RA 8750), the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act (RA 10586), and the Children’s Safety in Motor Vehicles Act (RA 10666).
“The holiday operation not only aims to ensure that public utility vehicles are safe but also seeks to cultivate responsible behavior among road users,” Reyes said.
“We want every commuter to feel secure and comfortable during their journey,” he added.
LTO-6 said the “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos! Pasko 2025” campaign is aimed at preventing road crashes, promoting responsible road use, and ensuring a safe, orderly, and efficient holiday travel experience as Filipinos head home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year./PN
